Due to its therapeutic physiological effects, Hyperbaric Oxygenation Treatment is indicated in all pathologies that occur with pain and inflammation. Among its main effects: it speeds up rehabilitation times and promotes wound healing.

The session lasts approximately 60 minutes. Both number of sessions and frequency are stablished due to pathology and set by an M.D through appointment.
While breathing oxygen through the mask, you can read or listen to music, or only rest!

 

Once inside the hyperbaric chamber, the door is closed and air begins to be “injected” into it. The only symptom that can be felt is a pressure in the ears. Any discomfort must be reported to the staff in charge.

 

• To enter the chamber, the patient will be asked to enter barefoot.
• Fasting is not necessary.
• It is suggested not to drink alcohol 12 hours prior to treatment.
• It is requested not to smoke at least 2 hours before and after each session.
• Notify the operator if you have a cold, nasal or bronchial congestion.
• Notify any change in the usual medication.

 

Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy generates a considerable increase in oxygen levels in blood and tissues. Its physiological effects are:

Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy at 1.45 ATM only has an absolute contraindication :

• Untreated pneumothorax or spontaneous one ( A pneumothorax is a collapsed lung. It occurs when air leaks into the space between the lungs and the chest wall. The air presses on the outside of the lung and causes it to collapse. )
• Pulmonary bullae . (Thin-walled air sac located within the lung. May cause shortness of breath, spontaneous pneumothorax, and abscesses. )

Relative contraindications must be evaluated by the doctor in the first appointment: unhealed tympanic perforation, chemotherapy with certain drugs (bleomycin, cisplatin, doxorubicin, disulfiram) performed the same day as the session in the Hyperbaric Chamber and the use of older tecnology on heart technology pacemaker.

Some special care must be taken in patients with claustrophobia, diseases of the upper airways, patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, as well as controlling blood glucose in diabetic patients and checking blood pressure in hypertensive patients. Taking the necessary precautions, all these conditions can be overcome without major problems.

 

Relative Contraindications

• Congenital spherocytosis
• Some chemotherapy drugs
• COPD ( Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease)
• Fever
• Ongoing pregnancy
• Upper airway obstruction
• Optic neuritis
• Epilepsy without adequate medication

Our hyperbaric chambers have ten windows and constant ventilation, as well as a quick opening and closing valve system to exit in seconds when required. For this reason, claustrophobia is not a contraindication to hyperbaric oxygen therapy.

 

The new medium pressure technology is efficient and does not carry the risks of high pressure chambers. Both technologies have similar performance and even oxygen doses provided at medium pressure provides, in some cases, a greater anti-inflammatory effect than high pressure chambers.

In neurology, superior therapeutic effects were achieved working with pressures less than 2 ATM than at higher pressures. Researchers suggest that, at the neuronal level, neuroplasticity or neuronal recovery and nerve fiber regeneration is achieved with low-level doses of oxygen, since at higher oxygen levels reactive oxygen species are toxic to the neuron with no therapeutical effect .This pressure at 1.45 ATM is also ideal for pediatric patients or those with epilepsy seizures, or neurologic problems.
